I started backpacking across China over a decade ago during my university years. With limited money and a beat-up backpack, I took 30-hour hard-seat sleeper trains across Gansu and Xinjiang, hiked mountain passes without cable cars in western Sichuan, and ate at neighborhood hole-in-the-wall noodle shops across southern China.

Over the past decade, China transformed into one of the most technologically advanced and easiest countries to navigate once you understand how its digital systems work. Yet for foreign travelers, the information gap grew wider. Global travel forums are still filled with outdated advice from 2015, while Chinese daily life moved entirely to QR codes, facial recognition train gates, and cashless mobile payments.

I built Travel to East to bridge that exact divide: replacing generic, outdated tourist brochures with battle-tested, practical walkthroughs that empower travelers to explore China on their own terms.

We take factual accuracy and reader trust seriously. In an internet saturated with auto-generated travel scrapers and generic listicles, Travel to East adheres to four core editorial principles:

• Commercial Transparency: When we link to trusted booking platforms (such as Trip.com for train e-tickets or hotels), we disclose it openly. Affiliate partnerships help keep our content free, but they never dictate our editorial verdicts.
